Reconnect the motor to the door chain opener then test your door by opening and closing it a few times.

A sagging chain is a result of normal usage of the garage door opener. Adjust it tight enough so that the center of the chain sags about 1 2 down from parallel with the track graphic below right. There should be nuts on either side to adjust the drive mechanism. Use the wrench to loosen the lock nuts and turn the adjustment nut to set the slack in the chain.

Do not over tighten the chain. Usually a pair of nuts are associated with the locking mechanism while one is concerned with the adjustment of the chain. These usually consist of a bolt with two or three nuts one or two for locking or a nut and lock washer and one for adjusting. You need to loosen the bolts located near the motor and squeeze the nut located on the opposite end to tighten the chain.

Use a wrench to turn the first nut at the side of the assembly counterclockwise. This will cause premature wear on the chain rollers. The adjustment bolt a bolt with threads which the chain is connected to has a pair of adjusting nuts on either side of the assembly. Took 10 minutes to remove the old bolt and install the new one.

The most common issues caused when a garage door track is out of alignment are as follows. Step 4 reconnect the motor. Close the door and it is locked pull the chain and it is unlocked. The problem with a misaligned garage door track is that it can cause problems with the operation of your door.
